House Defeats Iraq War Funding, Measure Likely to be Approved in the Senate Interview with Leslie Cagan, national coordinator of United for Peace and Justice, conducted by Scott Harris  With an April CBS News - New York Times public opinion poll finding that 62 percent of Americans believe that President Bush's war in Iraq was a mistake, and that the war is a major factor in current U.S. economic problems, it's not surprising that presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain is changing his position on the war. In a recent speech forecasting what the nation would look like after his first year in the White House, McCain predicted that the Iraq War will be won and most U.S. troops will be home by January 2013. In past statements McCain had condemned timetables for withdrawal, saying that it amounted to setting a date for "surrender." Between The Lines Scott Harris spoke with Leslie Cagan, national coordinator with United for Peace and Justice, the nation's largest anti-war coalition, who examines the defeat of the war funding bill, and the anti-war movement's strategy for making their voice heard in the presidential election campaign.
